An Inuk woman from Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut, Nikki Komaksiutiksak is president and CEO of Ottawa based Pauktuutit Inuit Women of Canada She was the founder and chief executive officer of Tunngasugit Inc, Western Canada’s first Inuit resource centre, in Winnipeg. Nikki preserves her “Inukness” even as she calls Winnipeg her home. She is active in the city’s Inuit community and uses her knowledge and understanding to help Inuit moving to “the big city” from the north.
Nikki is an experienced throat singer, a teacher of Inuit history and culture, and a heartfelt musical performer. She has been featured in events around the world, always sharing her identity and teaching about Canadian Inuit culture. A mother and survivor of intergenerational trauma, Nikki believes it is important to learn, educate, and understand Inuit culture, history, and language.
