Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Matches Employee & Customer Donations for Typhoon Relief

Starting this weekend, customers at all Liquor Marts and the Casinos of Winnipeg, can make donations to the Canadian Red Cross typhoon relief efforts in the Philippines. Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries will be matching customer and employee donations until December 9, to a maximum of $50,000.

“The magnitude of this disaster and devastation on human life is something all Manitobans care about and we wanted to do our part in terms of making it easy for people to help,” says Winston Hodgins, President & CEO of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. “To the people of the Philippines who have suffered losses from Typhoon Haiyan, many of whom are friends and families of our employees and customers, we extend our sincere condolences.”

Customers at the casinos can make cash or cheque donations at the coat check areas of both Club Regent Casino and McPhillips Station Casino as of today. And Liquor Mart patrons can donate at all locations in Winnipeg & throughout the province, starting tomorrow, November 16. All proceeds will be collected and donated to the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Red Cross.

“Support from Manitobans has been overwhelming,” said Shawn Feely, Provincial Director for Manitoba Red Cross. “We acknowledge and sincerely appreciate Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries’ generosity, commitment and contribution in providing additional aid relief efforts for the millions of people who have been left homeless and risk hunger, injury and infection.”

Since Haiyan made landfall, the Red Cross has been working to provide urgently-needed assistance in affected communities. This includes deploying a mobile field hospital with the assistance of the Government of Canada, distributing food, and mobilizing items like blankets, jerry cans, hygiene kits and sleeping mats.

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries operates Liquor Marts and Liquor Mart Express stores, Club Regent Casino, McPhillips Station Casino, Video Lotto and PlayNow.com, and also distributes and sells Western Canada Lottery products through our network of lottery ticket retailers. Revenues generated by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries are returned to the Province to support priority programming in health care, education, social and community services, economic development and public safety initiatives.
