Research

Research is an essential part of delivering our social responsibility commitment.

We use research results to make evidence-based decisions and improve the quality and effectiveness of our programs. Liquor & Lotteries conducts research and program evaluations on our own and with partners provincially and across Canada.

We’re a major funder of research aimed at improving the early diagnosis, intervention and prevention of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD). Our three-year commitment of $1.35 million is making it possible for researchers from the University of Manitoba and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem to conduct innovative work right here in our province.

We are also a major funder of academic and student researchers in the province through our Manitoba Gambling Research Program. Each year $1 million is allocated toward research into responsible gambling programs, and problem gambling prevention and treatment.

The Manitoba Longitudinal Study of Young Adults, which we helped fund, followed 679 young Manitoban adults over a five year period to support improved understanding of the links between gambling behaviour and biological, psychological and sociocultural factors.  Researchers can access the dataset through the Liquor and Gaming Authority of Manitoba.

Funding is also provided for annual Insight research studies conducted by the Responsible Gambling Council Centre for the Advancement of Best Practices. These studies promote the identification and adoption of best practices to reduce the incidence of problem gambling.
