Nepal Region Earthquake Relief

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Matches Employee & Customer Donations for Nepal Region Earthquake Relief

Starting today, customers at all Liquor Marts and the Casinos of Winnipeg can make donations to the Canadian Red Cross Nepal Region Earthquake Fund. Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries will be matching customer and employee donations until May 17, to a maximum of $50,000.

“The devastation resulting from natural disasters of this magnitude is felt all over the world. We are quickly reminded of how fortunate we are and search for ways to show we care. This campaign makes it easy for Manitobans to help and show their support,” says John Stinson, CEO of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. “To the people of the Nepal region who have suffered losses from this earthquake, some of whom are friends and families of our employees and customers, we extend our sincere condolences.”

Starting today, May 4, customers at the casinos can make cash or cheque donations at the coat check areas of both Club Regent Casino and McPhillips Station Casino. Liquor Mart patrons can donate at all locations in Winnipeg & throughout the province. All proceeds will be collected and donated to the Manitoba Chapter of the Canadian Red Cross.

“The Red Cross has been helping the people of Nepal since shortly after the devastating earthquake, providing necessary aid and comfort during a catastrophic disaster,” said Shawn Feely, Provincial Director, Manitoba, of the Canadian Red Cross. “To deliver this assistance, we need the support of Manitobans, who have always been very generous in times of disaster. We have also always been very appreciative of the caring generosity of Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries in contributing to our relief efforts and thank them for their matching donations to assist the people of Nepal.”

Since the 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck near Kathmandu, Nepal, the Canadian Red Cross, with support from the Government of Canada, has been delivering urgently-needed assistance in affected communities. This includes deployment of a mobile field hospital to provide critical life-saving health services and distribution of non-food relief kits including tarps, clothing, kitchen sets, mosquito nets, and personal hygiene items.

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries operates Liquor Marts and Liquor Mart Express stores, Club Regent Casino, McPhillips Station Casino, Video Lotto and PlayNow.com, and also distributes and sells Western Canada Lottery products through our network of lottery ticket retailers. Revenues generated by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries are returned to the Province to support priority programming in health care, education, social and community services, economic development and public safety initiatives.
