CROWN CORPORATION DELIVERS BEYOND BUDGET EXPECTATIONS IN 2017-18

Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries increases profits $24.3 million over previous year

WINNIPEG – All major lines of business at Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries, including casinos, video lotto, and liquor operations increased their revenues in 2017-18. The results are found in the corporation’s new annual report, tabled in the provincial legislature today.

An increase of overall revenues, net of direct expenses, to $610.4 million marks back-to-back years of growth. The year-over-year rate of growth nearly doubled to reach 4.1%.

The 2017-18 fiscal year demonstrates what we can achieve when we refocus on core operations, developing new ideas and projects to enhance our main lines of business," said Polly Craik, Chair, Board of Directors. "The board continues to provide strong guidance as we take a more defined business approach to our operations.”

As a Crown corporation that delivers entertainment experiences and operates at the retail level, customer satisfaction is a critical measure of success.

“Here again we have set new benchmarks for ourselves,” said Peter Hak, President & CEO. “Our casinos established an annual customer satisfaction score of 83%, while 94% of respondents gave Manitoba Liquor Marts a top grade. These are the highest ever annual satisfaction ratings for both sides of our business.”

As a Crown corporation, Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries returns its revenues to the Province of Manitoba to support government programs and initiatives such as healthcare, education, social services, housing and infrastructure that are a benefit to all citizens.

Fleet fuel

45% reduction in idle time by our fleet drivers since 2015 has helped reduce fleet fuel consumption, which is our second largest direct source of GHG emissions (natural gas for heating buildings is first).
